What Is Required to Get Started

Before you can start accepting HSA/FSA payments through Truemed, you’ll need a few things in place. This page covers onboarding requirements, Stripe setup, and the technical prerequisites for each supported platform.

Onboarding requirements

To partner with Truemed, your business must:

  • Sell to U.S. customers. Truemed is currently available in the United States only. Your business does not need to be U.S.-headquartered (see international merchant notes below).
  • Offer products that can be medically substantiated. Truemed works with products and services that treat, mitigate, or prevent a diagnosed medical condition under IRS guidelines. Truemed evaluates product eligibility during the partnership process.
  • Complete Stripe onboarding. Truemed uses Stripe to process payments and issue payouts. You’ll set up a Stripe account on the Truemed platform during onboarding.
  • Have a team member with admin access available for setup. Depending on your platform, you’ll need someone who can install apps or adjust payment settings during a live onboarding call.

Most implementations take 30 minutes or less.

Stripe account

Truemed uses Stripe to collect funds from your customers’ HSA/FSA cards and transfer them to your linked bank account.

What to know:

  • You’ll create a new Stripe account under the Truemed platform, even if you already have an existing Stripe account. You can use your existing credentials to log in.
  • You must connect a valid bank account so Truemed can remit payouts. This connection is encrypted and managed through Stripe. Truemed does not store your banking credentials.
  • Payouts typically settle within 48 hours on a rolling basis.
  • After onboarding, your Stripe account will show as either “Enabled” or “Complete.” Both statuses can receive payouts. Stripe may request additional information over time based on account volume and age.

International merchants: You’ll need an EIN, a U.S. phone number, and a U.S. business address to complete Stripe onboarding. You can apply for an EIN as a foreign entity through the IRS.
