Partial Eligibility

Truemed's partial eligibility functionality enables support for merchants offering products that qualify for HSA/FSA reimbursement only in part. This is relevant for products like mattresses, which are considered necessary household items. As a result, only the incremental cost associated with the mattress’s additional health benefits—beyond what a standard mattress provides—is eligible for reimbursement.

Truemed assigns a comparable item + price for each partially eligible SKU at the product level. Comparable products are sourced from widely available retailers like Walmart or Amazon, with the price point determined based on the product's features and intended use. Additionally, Truemed continuously monitors HSA/FSA claim submissions at the selected comparable price to evaluate and refine the effectiveness of these comparable assignments.

When customers complete the qualification survey, the eligible amount is calculated and show within the Eligible Items section on the payment screen. They will see the amount that is In-Eligible at the bottom.
